ACER news 2 minute read

The first animated children's TV series to feature Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their culture receives a top award nomination.

The ground-breaking TV series Little J & Big Cuz has been recognised with a 2018 Logie Award nomination in the ‘Most Outstanding Children’s Program’ category.

The show, originally broadcast on NITV in April last year, was the first animated children’s program to feature Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their culture. Featuring the voice talent of Play School alumni Miranda Tapsell and Deborah Mailman in the title roles, Little J & Big Cuz has been developed to support successful transitions to school for Indigenous children.

The program is an initiative of the Australian Council for Educational Research’s (ACER) Foundation and was produced by Ned Lander Media with the invaluable assistance of these generous partners:

  • NITV
  • Screen Australia
  • Film Victoria
  • Screen Tasmania
  • The Australian Children’s Television Foundation
  • SNAICC – National Voice for our Children.

"We're very proud to have Little J & Big Cuz honoured like this," says ACER Foundation Director Lisa Norris. "Feedback from children and teachers has been incredible so we know the program is well loved but it's gratifying for all involved to have the entertainment industry recognise its value too."

Tune in to Little J & Big Cuz on the website, where you will also find a range of supporting material to accompany the series, including games for children and educational resources for teachers and families.

Winners of the 2018 Logie Awards will be announced on 1 July.
