Data analysis
You have data collected from assessments - what do you do with it now?
ACER offers individual longitudinal reports, group analysis, strand analysis, and many other reports.
Here are some questions which may help you when choosing the type of analysis:
- What types of analysis are you interested in (i.e. group, longitudinal, individual)?
- What is the purpose of the assessment and analysis?
Types of analysis and reports
Short term analysis
This analysis is based on one assessment. It can break results into strand, gender, item for group or individual. Examples of these types of reports are:
- Group Diagnostic report
- Rank Diagnostic report
- Percentage Responses report
- Individual report
- Strand Analysis report
Growth analysis - Longitudinal
These detailed analysis reports track cohort growth over two years of sitting the same assessment (a scaled test to allow for measurement). The types of reports provided are:
-
Group Growth Analysis report
A 'growth' report tracks cohort growth for consecutive sittings over a period of a minimum of 2 years. The report analyses scores for the match cohort against local and national norms. It can also be broken down by:- Gender
- Class types
- New intakes
-
Individual Longitudinal report
An Individual Longitudinal report can be used as a value added analysis to the Group Growth Analysis report. It tracks the growth of the individual against scale scores. -
Case Study Analysis report
The aim of this type of analysis is to observe whether there is any performance growth (or decline) of these performing students in consecutive sittings. Like the Individual Longitudinal report, this can be another value added analysis to the Group Growth Analysis report. This enables the school to identify the higher and lower performing students and track performance variation (if any) over the years. Questions then can be asked if the level of performance has been maintained or reasons why the performance level has increased or declined.- Low performing students (students whose scores are below the 10th percentile scores in the matched cohort)
- High performing students (students whose scores are above the 90th percentile scores in the matched cohort)
-
Year Level Analysis report
The Year Level Analysis report analyses year level data of different cohorts over a minimum of 2 years to identify patterns within year levels over time. It shows detailed analysis of scores against local and national norms. By comparing results of different cohorts in the same year levels over the years, this enables teachers to identify performance patterns of different cohorts for the same year level and question for instance if the syllabus is getting easier for the students if there is a performance growth over the years. The analysis can also be broken down by:- Gender
- Class types
- New intakes
-
Class Monitoring Analysis report
The Class Monitoring Analysis report monitors and analyse performance of individual students in the class. It is ideal for 2 assessments of the same cohort in the same year.
