CEET Annual Conference 2010: Education and training for a more productive Australia

The Annual Conference of the Monash University-ACER Centre for the Economics of Education and Training (CEET) will be held in Melbourne on Friday 29 October.

This year’s theme is ‘Education and training for a more productive Australia’. The conference will consider education and training policies in the context of changes in the Australian population, workforce and economy.

Virginia Simmons AO, a consultant with 23 years experience as a TAFE CEO, will open the conference and deliver a keynote presentation entitled ‘VET in the next decade: options and opportunities’.

Keynote presentations will also be delivered by Robin Shreeve, CEO of Skills Australia, to discuss issues for the VET sector in the context of the National Workforce Development strategy; Tom Karmel, Managing Director of the National Centre for Vocational Education Research, to speak on the changing labour market and the future of VET; and Ben Jensen, Program Director for the Grattan Institute’s School of Education, to address achieving productivity gains in education.

• Phil McKenzie and Sheldon Rothman, ACER, ‘Are school-leavers turning away from VET? Evidence from On Track’

The conference will take place between 9:00am and 4:00pm on Friday 29 October at Ascot House, 50 Fenton St, Ascot Vale, Melbourne.

CEET undertakes research, training, consultancies and dissemination on the economics and finance of education and training and the labour market.
